For those of you who dont know what YouTube is, it is an international website that consists of videos. Types of videos include Instructional Videos, Gaming Videos, Film Videos, and more. The creators of such videos are called "Channels". Some channels strive for a comedic style, others cover world-wide news, others even cover YouTube itself.
Personally, I find this website to be a place where I can watch videos that make me laugh, that make me think, that make me panic in excitement. What I do not find suitable is that YouTube has recently been trying to "fix" channels that may be offensive to viewers. Maybe the creators of YouTube wanted YouTube to be something else. But every single video is biased. It is supposed to be biased, and the videos will lean toward one side, or the other. No video will ever be completely free of a biased stand point.
YouTube must accept the fact that Channels have been created because they host what the creators of those channels had in mind. Say that I create a channel, and that channels purpose is to instruct people of the feminist community. Thats a random topic, but not for me. I chose that because I have an issue with it that I would like to address to the world. The fact that I have an issue with it says everything: My decision is biased.
Sure, YouTube will make it look like they are trying to get rid of Channels that are offensive. But what is offensive? I could find the sun offensive, because its ultraviolet rays may give me skin cancer. Others find it to be an amazing source of Vitamin D. Now say the sun is a video of feminism. I find it offensive, because it wrongly speaks of man, but you find it to be information that you could use in a protest speaking on behalf of women. See what I mean? Everyone has a different standpoint, a different perspective, so there is no reason to add rules like no video should "Contain hate speech, including verbal attacks based on gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, disability or nationality". Everyone should have a right to speak to the world about their opinion. And if someone finds it offensive, they may respond to such person with a video of their own.
Its time to wake up. YouTube had its time but now theyve taken the wrong step. They made rules that violate our right to speak up for ourselves, and thats not... right. But YouTube isnt the one at fault. Its the Channels. YouTube cares for us, so YouTube makes rules to guide the view of the viewer to what they want to view! That is why YouTube is amazing. They just got what they didnt deserve: Hate. Discrimination. And sadly, much more.
